Karate For Everyone

Sensei Scott has experience instructing thousands of children and adult students from a diverse range of backgrounds including state and private schools, scout groups and girl guides, special groups for young mothers, sports colleges and behavioural units to name but a few.

With a unique background teaching and caring for children with learning and physical disabilities, Sensei Scott has ensured that many children with additional needs have been able not just to join in but to thrive at Karate Club.

At Karate, children have the opportunity to have fun and interact with other students of all ages and also to develop into confident young martial artists and athletes.

This journey can last their entire time at school (and beyond), offering vast possibilities for a child's enrichment and enjoyment as well as their social, physical and mental development.

Sensei Scott has been coaching our children since May 2011 when they were five and seven years of age. The skills, self-discipline, resilience, confidence, and friendships they have gained through Karate are invaluable. As parents we are reassured knowing that our children go into the world with these skills. Sensei Scott is not only extremely experienced, but his patience and understanding has ensured our children not only progressed, but also enjoyed each step. We highly recommend Sensei Scott for all ages.

Core Values At Rayner Karate

Our Karate classes are built on mutual respect between everyone in the class.

Classes are inclusive and open to all children, regardless of their background, beliefs, language barriers or additional needs.

Children at Karate train together, help each other to learn and challenge each other to grow.

Confidence, respect, optimism and the value of helping others are all encouraged in our Karate lessons for children to take with them from the dojo to the outside world.

Our daughter has been thriving as a person and athlete in the last few years. She was a very shy little girl when she started school and enrolling her to do karate in reception was the best decision we made.
We have witnessed her development and progress with so much pride; every term spent under the guidance of Sensei Scott brought great achievements. From her rewards as student of the year to her progression in belts, it confirmed that the choice of martial arts and ultimately Sensei Scott has given her the support to become a confident, strong and kind girl.

Karate at Primary Schools

When do school classes run?

Classes at primary schools run every week during term time as after school clubs and also before school starts (ready in time for class registration).

What happens at Karate Club?

Our club is about being a part of something different and special, not just a 'sport' after school. Karate club also includes unique games and challenges ranging from reaction drills to flying kicks against pads to nunchuck demonstrations, mat wrestling games, and so much more.

Who can grade in Karate?

Children who train throughout the term, may be able to grade at the end of each term for their stripes and colour belts in Shotokan Karate.

What are the benefits of attending Rayner Karate classes?

A key focus at Rayner Karate is helping to engage and develop young people to become healthier and more athletic individuals. This not only helps children’s growth and development in the short term, but has the potential to positively impact their bodies' health and physical ability as they grow older too.

Why is Karate suitable for all children?

Because it is not a ‘sport’ in the traditional sense of the word, Karate offers unique possibilities for children of all ability levels at Primary School. Children who are perhaps shyer, less confident and not as inclined to participate in other activities can thrive just as much as children who enjoy a range of sports.  One of the many reasons for this is Sensei Scott's goal of helping children develop their own individual strengths at Karate. While encouraging the group dynamic is important in our classes, ultimately Karate isn't a team sport and each child who trains with us will be helped but also challenged to find how to express themselves as a young person and martial artist.

Our aim is to help every child who comes to Karate become a stronger version of themselves, in every way.
